Description
Our research group focuses on the discovery and experimental validation of novel electronic states in quantum materials. This program seeks to isolate and control exotic phenomena—such as integer and fractional quantum anomalous Hall states, superconductivity, and correlated insulators—that hold promise as the foundation for next-generation electrical standards and quantum information applications.
The core of this program involves the fabrication of test device structures and heterostructures from atomically engineered materials that host these exotic states. We develop specialized measurement capabilities to determine the fundamental properties of solid-state systems through a rigorous experimental suite:
- Cryogenic Measurements: Performing high-precision characterization of novel devices and the materials that comprise them.
- Precision Transport: Utilizing low-temperature magneto-transport, the gold standard for identifying emergent quantum properties like superconductivity or metal-insulator transitions.
- Advanced Fabrication: Designing and building test device structures with the requisite properties for identifying and understanding novel electronic phases.
Goal and Impact: By extracting the fundamental attributes of topologically protected electronic systems, we assess whether their underlying physics can be harnessed for practical quantum applications. This research is critical for the development of robust quantum materials, future computing architectures, and the dissemination of new metrology standards. We invite motivated candidates to join us in bridging the gap between basic discovery and transformative quantum technologies.
