Updated: over 2 years ago
Deadline: open until filled

Description:

CCFSC  is providing three opportunities to do meaningful work in Maine’s food system.

Our Local Food Coordinator VISTA manages a portfolio of interesting projects including the Cumberland County Gleaning Initiative .

Our Food Fuels Learning  Coordinator VISTA works with Portland Public Schools to implement our innovative whole school food system project.

Our Maine Food Justice Initiative VISTA will be coordinating the development of a new network working toward racial justice in Maine’s food system.

All our VISTAs will contribute toward our statewide effort to End Hunger in Maine by 2030.

Cumberland County Food Security Council’s (CCFSC) mission is to increase food access for vulnerable people in our County by working together to initiate, strategize and innovate solutions to hunger. Our work serves communities, families and people working to solve their own economic challenges and build food security. Initiatives include “Closing the Hunger Gap with Local Food,” our data collection, networking and shared measurement project. This collaborative initiative is evaluating the ways Council members utilize locally grown and produced food.

The AmeriCorps VISTA member will build upon the foundation of a recently developed gleaning initiative for Cumberland County. The member will strengthen existing relationships with current participants and actively recruit new program participants. Managing the information infrastructure, including web and social media, will be important elements, as will be tracking and documenting the distribution of gleaned food. The AmeriCorps VISTA member will also work with people organizing community meals to integrate local food into their projects. Other responsibilities include strengthening the volunteer infrastructure and supporting our efforts to build food security in public schools.

These are all great opportunities for professional development while becoming integral to healing our food system in beautiful Maine.
