SUMMARY

The Living Center Director (LCD) position is a live on residential role primarily focused on the management of a campus housing unit consisting of 400-700 co-ed residents. This staff member will supervise a student staff of Resident Assistants (RA) for the community and create an inclusive community development plan focused on supporting all residents. The LCD will also be responsible for the daily administrative, operational, and facilities duties within the community assigned. Staff in this role will have direct contact with students through the restorative justice process, student CARE and outreach as well as through recruitment of RA Staff. Qualified individuals will demonstrate critical thinking skills, have an interest in engaging and educating students and are able to balance personal and work life.


PRIMARY DUTIES
  • Supervision and management of residential area housing consisting of 400-700 co-ed residents with undergraduate and graduate staff teams of between five and fourteen.  
  • Advising and academic support for residents through one-on-one interactions and community curriculum development.
  • Development and facilitation of community development plans to enhance the residential student experience and student retention. This includes application of foundational student development theoretical models and guiding literature, development of community learning goals through the facilitation of the Housing and Residence Life (HRL) curriculum, participation in the larger community engagement series, and specific connections with campus resources to aid students in successful navigation of the college experience.
  • Maintain assigned community budget to support programming and overall administration of the community. Prioritize student success and engagement through budgeting and planning with short- and long-term goals.
  • Respond to and report incidents in alignment with HRL protocol and compliance regulations.
  • Conduct and conflict resolution management utilizing Advocate, and restorative justice measures as part of the HRL and GVSU Conduct and Conflict Resolution protocol.
  • Audit and maintain community facilities through room condition reports, public area inventory, art inventory, administer charges for damages, complete health & safety inspections to create and maintain a safe and secure living environment.  
  • Lead summer tours of incoming students through summer orientation onboarding.
  • Serve in an on-call duty and crisis response after hours response team. Respond to students in crisis, incidents, and emergency situations 24-7 while serving in this capacity.
  • Collaboration with campus partners and department/division committee participation.
  • Performs other duties as required/assigned by supervisor.

  • KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED
    • Bachelor's degree
    • Experience working with students in a college setting 

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES PREFERRED
    • Master's Degree in Student Affairs or related field
    • At least one year experience working in a university residential setting
    • Supervision experience
    • Budget oversight experience
    • Performance in restorative practices and/or student conduct management
    • Student program development and implementation experience
    • Experience supporting students academically
    • Leadership and facilities management of an assigned living area
    • Experience providing academic support to college students
    • Strong technology/computer skills

    WORKING CONDITIONS

    Normal office environment.  Some travel may be required.
