Description

The Department of Literature and Communication Arts (LCA) at the University of Mount Union invites applications for adjunct teaching positions in its undergraduate English (literature), Writing, and Communication programs, starting fall semester 2024. These are part-time, non-tenured positions.


Responsibilities

Adjunct faculty will work primarily under direction of the Chair of the Department of Literature and Communication Arts.

Responsibilities include:

  • Provide instruction in accordance with University and Department defined policies
  • Maintain office hours and communicate with students on an ongoing basis
  • Maintain accurate electronic records as per University and Department program requirements
  • Submit all records as required
  • Keep current in the discipline/area of teaching
  • Participate in training and technologies as necessary to facilitate course delivery
  • Hires are required to complete assigned compliance training as communicated by the University


Qualifications

Candidates must possess a master's degree with a minimum of 18 graduate semester credits in a discipline relevant to the area in which they will be teaching. For writing and communication positions, individuals with extensive professional experience may be considered.

Current areas of need include:

  • Literature: American literature surveys; literature of diverse populations (including African American literatures, literatures of global English speakers, gender and literature, LGBTQ+ literature, Native American literature, and literature and human rights)
  • Writing: Creative writing workshops (including poetry, fiction, creative nonfiction, writing about the environment, and script writing)
  • Communication: Interpersonal communication, organizational communication, persuasion and argumentation, public advocacy and social justice

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience teaching at the college-level
  • Knowledge and use of Learning Management Systems (specifically D2L Brightspace)
  • The ability to teach during the day is preferred. Online, evening, or hybrid teaching may be an option.

Selected candidate will be required to provide official transcripts within 30 days of employment. Transcripts should be provided for the highest earned degree and/or the degree which is being used to satisfy credential/qualification requirements.
