The Office of Information Technology has an opening for a full-time University Staff (unclassified) Linux Systems Engineer position.

We are looking for a Linux Systems Engineer to provide both remote and onsite IT support on the CU Anschutz campus. Here are some examples of the work of a Linux Systems Engineer:

  • Deploys high-availability, fast, stable, scalable, and secure shared service environments in accordance with established standards
  • Works as part of a larger team to provide a high-quality service to customers.
  • Installs and configures Linux, Oracle Identity Management Suite of products, and other related software applications
  • Investigates new technologies for configuration management, monitoring, tactical and strategic objectives.
  • Documents design of Linux-based systems used for prototyping, Testing, implementation, and deployment.
  • This position will occasionally involve after-hours on-call support rotation within a team.

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective professional working relations with colleagues, associates, administrative staff members, faculty, and with personnel of external agencies and organizations
  • Has foundational knowledge of Linux administration. Including but not limited to; networking, storage, shell scripting, installation, and configuration of applications.
  • Has knowledge of Database Management systems including traditional relational database
  • Working knowledge in authentication standards like Active Directory and/or LDAP,
  • Has knowledge of Web Services including Service Oriented Architecture (SOA), Software as a Service (SAAS), Infrastructure as a Services (IAAS)

We also have a few Minimum Requirements:

  • Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or closely related field.
    • Substitution: Work experience in the occupational field or specialized subject area of the work assigned to the job may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the degree.
  • 1-2 years of experience working as a technical Application Administrator in technically complex, highly integrated, and redundant environments.

Required: Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

And would love to see these additional qualifications, but they are not required:

  • 3+ years full-time experience as a Technical Application Administrator
  • Successful working history in IT for Higher Education
  • Experience with Disaster Recovery planning and testing
  • Experience leading at least one full-lifecycle implementation, from hardware sizing through go-live and stabilization
  • Familiarity with protocols and industry standards such as LDAP, and SAML is highly desired
  • Operational information technology experience within a structured environment with increasing levels of responsibility and complexity
  • Configure and maintain systems and applications: Oracle Database, Oracle Exadata Cloud.  (ExaCC)
  • Experience with the following applications:
    • WebLogic Server or Apache, Oracle Universal Directory (OUD), MuleSoft, Exasol,
    • Foundational understanding of key infrastructure areas (networking, SAN, security, etc.)

Conditions of Employment:

This position may require some occasional weekend and evening assignments as well as occasional availability during off-hours for participation in both scheduled and unscheduled activities.

This position is eligible for full-remote, hybrid, or on-site working locations. The work schedule will be based around core working hours in Colorado Mountain Time.

Salary and Benefits:

The salary range (or hiring range ) for this position has been established at $55,209 to $85,000.
