The Department of Anthropology at Sarah Lawrence College invites applications for a guest faculty position in Linguistic Anthropology. The position will be full-time for the Spring Semester of 2024 when the successful candidate will teach one lecture and one seminar, and will be on campus four days per week. For Fall 2024 and Spring 2025, the position is half-time, teaching one course each semester (two days on campus per week.)

We seek an innovative teacher-scholar whose work explores the role of language in society. A wide range of research interests will be considered; these can include the study of theories of language and culture, linguistic ideologies and practices, the politics of language, verbal art, language and identity, discourse analysis, sociolinguistic methods of analysis, and interdisciplinary perspectives. We are especially interested in candidates who conduct research in non-English speaking communities.

The successful candidate should have demonstrated excellence, or clear promise of excellence, in teaching linguistic anthropology at the undergraduate level and working individually with students.

Candidates should submit a C.V., proposed syllabi for two courses, a statement of teaching philosophy, a sample of writing, and two references.

Compensation listed for this position is on a per-course basis, contingent on teaching experience .

Required Qualifications Preferred Qualifications

Ph.D. in anthropology is preferred.

Salary $10,500 to $14,000 EEO Statement
