Job Summary:

Ready Sett Go! Rev up your culinary career with the Wisconsin Union. Be responsible for delivering high quality food and excellent customer service at two of the campus's most popular venues. Work as the lead lunchtime cook for the Sett Pub during the academic year, and work at the Union Terrace during the summer. The duties of this position will include- food preparation work, serving of food, supply and distribution of food and supplies to service areas, as well as cleaning assigned work areas. This position will also direct and coordinate the work of part-time and student staff. The successful person in this position will:

Responsibilities:
Performs a variety of food preparation activities and related tasks according to quality and safety standards in dining, retail, and/or catering venues to ensure customer satisfaction and achieve departmental food service goals.
  • 50% Performs routine and non-routine food preparation activities including cook to order and specialty foods
  • 20% Trains and guides student workers
  • 5% Greets customers, answers questions, and provides information regarding food preparation and associated activities
  • 20% Cleans, inspects, and maintains kitchen equipment and work areas
  • 5% Adheres to federal, state, campus, and local food safety regulations, policies, and procedures

Work Schedule:

Academic Year (approx. Sept. to May): Sett Pub Union South, Monday - Friday 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. Badger Bash/special event weekends, occasional nights and holidays depending on operational needs.

Summer (approx. May to September): Memorial Union Terrace, Wednesday - Sunday 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. Mondays and Tuesdays off. Occasional nights and holidays depending on operational needs.

It is anticipated this position requires work be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location.

Additional Information:

The Wisconsin Union operates from several buildings on the UW-Madison campus including Memorial Union, Union South, Fluno Center, Pyle Center, University Club, Red Gym, and the Student Activity Center. The Wisconsin Union is a financially self-supporting division of the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Financial support for the organization is provided by income earned by over thirty food service units and a variety of nonfood units such as games, guest rooms, space rentals and campus vending. Substantial support is also provided by student fees. The total annual organizational budget is approximately $60 million dollars.
Student Affairs is led by the Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs. Our staff is dedicated to serving students and to helping them succeed in and out of the classroom in areas including health and well-being, identity and inclusion, leadership and engagement, and student advocacy. Student Affairs includes departments led by the dean of students; departments that provide identity-based spaces and leadership resources; the Wisconsin Union; University Health Services; and University Recreation and Wellbeing.
