The Department of World Languages and Cultures at Georgia College invites applications for a non-renewable, limited-term Spanish lecturer position for Academic Year 2024-24, beginning August 1, 2024. We seek a dynamic and creative colleague who enjoys teaching Spanish language courses at the introductory- and intermediate-levels. The incumbent will teach fifteen credit-hours per semester and be an integral and equal part of a group of faculty committed to curricular innovation and to providing exciting, proficiency-based courses to students fulfilling their language requirements and to majors, minors, and non-majors.
The Department provides language instruction in French, Spanish, German, and Italian, a minor in French and Spanish, and a unified B.A. degree in World Languages and Cultures, with concentrations in French and Spanish. Our work is supported by a state-of-the-art Language Resource Center, which sponsors a peer-tutoring program and international coffee hours. Our faculty work closely with students through community-engaged learning projects and mentored undergraduate research as part of Georgia College's innovative GC Journeys program, which seeks to embed high-impact practices throughout a meaningful and compelling undergraduate liberal arts curriculum.

All faculty members contribute service to the Institution. Service includes recruiting majors and minors, mentoring students, attending and encouraging students to attend co-curricular activities organized by the department, engaging in committee work, advising a student organization like the Spanish Club, or participating in special programs or projects.

Educational Requirements
A doctoral level degree in Spanish is required.
ABD candidates who have finished the coursework for a doctoral degree and anticipate the successful completion of their dissertation and conferral of the degree may be considered.
Must meet SACSCOC accreditation requirements stated in C.S. 3.7.1 [www.sacscoc.org (faculty credentials)]: the completion of a minimum of 18 graduate semester hours in Spanish.
Other Required Qualifications
We seek applicants with native or near-native fluency in Spanish and English and who have an interest in teaching and mentoring in a public liberal arts context. We seek applicants who love language teaching and are able to work collegially and effectively with students and colleagues of diverse backgrounds, contributing, through their own unique perspectives and experiences, to the diversity and excellence of the academic community. We seek applicants with strong training in L2 methodology, superior language teaching skills in a proficiency-based environment, and a commitment to methodological innovation and creative teaching strategies.
