Position Highlights

The School of Natural Resources and the Environment (SNRE) is hiring an experienced limited term adjunct lecturer to instruct Study Abroad Programs focused on different ecosystems, conservation biology, biodiversity, working with government and private conservation services and desert ecology in Namibia. This position is expected to end in August 2024 and the successful candidate will teach a course titled Namibia: Desert Ecology and Conservation Biology.

This course involves teaching about Namibia’s issues relates to research and conservation of biodiversity. Students will interact with representatives from government and non-governmental organizations, and visit field research stations, reserves, national parks and conservation organizations. The instructor will also be required to teach about different ecosystems in the area, their conservation status and management options with the Namibian context.

This position is based in Tucson, Arizona, but will require travel to Namibia for 7 weeks.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Teaching the field course in Namibia.
  • Mentoring students.
  • Coordinating with other course instructors.
  • Helping students collect field data.
  • Helping students comparing and analyzing data collected during the course.
  • Driving a 4×4 vehicle on and off road.
Minimum Qualifications
  • PhD in ecology and evolutionary biology or in a related field.
  • Experience with undergraduate teaching and mentoring.
  • Experience with teaching study abroad courses in conservation biology and desert ecology in Namibia.
  • Experience with collecting field data.
  • Experience with analysis of biological data.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Prior experience leading study abroad programs for universities.
