Description of Work Unit
CEMML is a research, education and service unit within the Warner College of Natural Resources at Colorado State University (CSU). CEMML applies the latest and most appropriate science to promote the sustainable management of natural and cultural resources on Department of Defense (DoD) and other public lands. We provide technical support, conduct applied research, and offer career development and learning opportunities to support resource stewardship. We collaborate with our sponsors and within CSU to resolve complex environmental issues, leaving a legacy of science-based decisions that sustain our resources for future generations.

Position Summary
Up to three positions are available. Colorado State University and the Center for Environmental Management of Military lands are seeking to hire Light Equipment Operators to be located at Fort A.P. Hill, Virginia. The Fort A.P. Hill Land Management project seeks qualified light equipment operators to support land management and grounds maintenance activities. Light equipment operators will coordinate with installation staff to operate single and double axel vehicles, mowers, skid steers, brush hogs and other light equipment with the goal of maintaining open areas and controlling invasive species. Position will also be responsible for routine maintenance of equipment and monthly reporting on activities.

Required Job Qualifications
The successful candidate will have:
  • 2 years professional experience.
  • A High school Diploma, General Education Development (GED), or equivalent
  • Experience clearing vegetation using mechanical and hand equipment
  • Experience with running and maintaining light equipment
  • Physically able to work outdoors and perform strenuous labor under all weather conditions (e.g., heat and humidity). Able to lift 40 pounds repeatedly
  • Be able to follow directions, work collectively with others as a team, and maintain safe working standards
  • Must have a valid driver’s license or the ability to obtain a driver’s license by the employment start date.
  • The successful candidate must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. by proposed start date; CEMML will not provide visa sponsorship for this position.

  • Soil stabilization
  • Invasive species management
  • Land clearing
  • Handling and loading rock, dirt and other land management materials
  • Chainsaw operations
  • Working on military installations
