Position Overview

Position Summary:
The Library Technical Assistant – Production Services supports all aspects of Golden Library Production Services.   Reports directly to the Production Services Librarian.  Some evening and weekend duty may be required.


Requirements

Duties and Responsibilities: 
Working in a team-oriented environment, the Library Technical Assistant will:

  • Track, order and maintain all production services supplies at an adequate level to meet the demands of services provided;
  • Participate in hiring, training and evaluating production services and computer lab student assistants; assist with daily supervision, direction and problem-solving.
  • Oversees and participates in the preparation of cost estimates; plans and lays out printing and laminating projects; assists customers, and others with the planning, development and lay-out of printing projects and related specifications; confers with staff concerning printing needs and timelines; 
  • Operates a variety of reprographic and finishing equipment including cutters, binding, printers, button press, scanners, copiers, computers and assigned software; provides training to staff and student workers regarding the safe and proper operation of equipment; 
  • Reviews completed jobs and monitor works in progress to assure accuracy, completeness, clarity of text and images, and compliance with established standards; prepares and packages completed projects for shipment and delivery; receives and processes mail and deliveries as needed; 
  • Maintains records and files related to printing orders, expenditures and assigned activities; prepares and follows up on billing and financial documentation for production services; 
  • Serves as a liaison and technical resource regarding printing services and projects; coordinates communications and information between and provides technical assistance to ENMU students, faculty and staff, clients, vendors and others; 
  • Troubleshoots and/or reports equipment and system problems as needed; Initiates and receives phone calls; prepares, distributes and responds to correspondence; resolves printing issues, discrepancies and problems in a proper and timely manner; 
  • Assists with data gathering and specialized reports and performs other duties as assigned;
  • Contributes to Golden Library initiatives that further ENMU’s commitment to diversity and inclusion.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Job Requirements:
High school diploma or equivalent.  Minimum one year experience in an office setting using technology or in a higher education/library environment using technology.    
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Evidence of strong attention to detail, problem-solving and analytical skills and an ability to work with minimal direct supervision.
  • Demonstrated initiative and proven ability to learn new technologies and adapt to change.
  • Ability to manage and prioritize tasks and perform effectively in a fast-paced environment with a fluctuating workload and frequent distractions and interruptions. 
  • Sound judgment and ability to analyze information and solve problems within the scope of the job responsibilities. 
  • Strong customer service skills.
  • Ability to initiate and maintain cooperative working relationships with co-workers, supervisors, and managers, and with other libraries. 
  • Ability to work harmoniously and as a team player, thrive in a team-based environment, and skill in fostering teamwork among others.
  • Demonstrated proficiency and capabilities with personal computers and standard computer office applications including: Microsoft Office 360 - Outlook, Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, or other productivity software and with the Web, web searching and virtual/webex meeting technologies.
  • Evidence of excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Experience using Adobe Creative Cloud software (photoshop, indesign, premiere, etc) and other software for graphic design.
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and student success, as well as working with broadly diverse communities.
  • Ability to interpret and evaluate client informational needs and determine appropriate solutions.
  • Ability to perform calculations necessary to estimate needed printing materials, supplies, time and resources necessary to complete printing jobs; 
  • Skill in organizing resources and establishing priorities.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Associates Degree or higher in graphic design, business, communication or other related field preferred.   
  • Two or more years higher education or library work experience;
  • Experience working in a production/media services, graphic design, print lab or production environment.


Working Conditions

Physical Demand and Working Conditions:

  • Some evening or weekend work may be required.
  • Work is sedentary in nature that at times requires exerting up to 25 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.
  • Must be able to push heavy book trucks, move and unpack boxes.
