Summary of Job Duties:

The Library Supervisor assists the director in the management and operation of the Fine Arts Library. The position hires, trains, supervises, and evaluates one Library Specialist and approximately 10 part-time hourly personnel and manages the library's service desk, which includes scheduling employees and monitoring and processing functions of the library's integrated system (holds, recalls, fines, etc.) The supervisor provides public service to patrons; oversees technical processing, stacks maintenance, and facilities; ensures security protocols are followed; and assumes responsibility for the operation of the library in the absence of the director.
Regular, reliable, and non-disruptive attendance is an essential job duty, as is the ability to create and maintain collegial, harmonious working relationships with others.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • The formal education equivalent of an associate’s degree in office administration, business management, business administration, or a related field

  • At least three years of experience in library services

Applicable equivalencies may be considered on the above qualifications.

  • At least one year in a supervisory or leadership capacity

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher

  • Experience with bibliographic databases, library catalogs, and the circulation module of an integrated library system

  • Education or work experience in the visual arts or related disciplines

  • Experience with hiring and supervising a range of employees, including appointed and non-appointed personnel

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: 

  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel

  • Excellent interpersonal skills

  • Strong commitment to public service skills

  • Ability to perform detail-oriented work with accuracy

  • Ability to multi-task
