Salary Information Salary is dependent on experience with a minimum of $33,660.00.
Department Summary
As the most-used service on campus and an essential component of education and research at the University of North Texas, the Libraries offer access to more than 6 million items (print and digital) along with expert personnel to assist patrons in achieving their academic and scholarly goals. We provide innovative programs and support to enhance the relationship between teaching and learning at the University of North Texas.
The Cataloging and Metadata Services Department creates and maintains the accuracy of the records in the online catalog for the General Collection for a variety of materials – books, audiovisual materials, online resources (e.g., e-books, streaming video, and streaming audio), periodicals, and maps. The department also maintains information about UNT’s collection in the OCLC WorldCat system which Interlibrary Loan uses to lend and borrow materials.

Position Overview
This position is responsible for having advanced knowledge and skills in the areas of copy cataloging monographs and audiovisual materials, working with records and metadata for e-resources and electronic theses and dissertations, providing authority control for access points in the integrated library system Sierra, and other special projects as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree and one year of progressively responsible library experience; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• Extensive knowledge of library principles and policies, and knowledge of specialized area functions and workflows.
• Experience in working effectively with students, faculty, staff, and the community.
• Ability to utilize multiple computer applications toward increased productivity in a rapidly changing environment.
• Strong leadership skills.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
• Knowledge of safe working procedures and security measures related to work performed.

  • Experience in a library cataloging/technical services unit.
  • Experience using III Sierra integrated library system (ILS), or any other ILS.
  • Familiarity with Library of Congress Classification.
  • Experience using OCLC Connexion Client.

Job Duties


o
Effectively uses technology to complete work, including library specific systems. Examples include: Windows OS, Microsoft Office, Sierra ILS, and OCLC Connexion.
o
Follows university and department guidelines, procedures, cataloging policies, and standards. Recommends changes to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of department and library operations. Uses judgment and problem-solving skills to identify, solve, or escalate complex problems.
o
Copy catalogs physical monographs for the general collection by selecting, downloading, and editing MARC records.
o
Contributes to the cataloging of e-resources in a manner consistent with copy cataloging. This could include: inserting URLs into bibliographic records, notifying users (as needed) their requested e-resource is available for use, batch editing and loading e-resource packages into Sierra, withdrawing e-resources that are no longer available.
o
Copy catalogs audio-visual materials for the UNT Media Library by selecting, downloading, and editing MARC records.
o
Performs necessary authority work while copy cataloging and while working on current electronic theses and dissertations.
