Posting Summary
Rutgers University-Camden is seeking a Clerical Assistant-Casual/part-time Library Circulation for the Law Library.
  • Work involves responsibility for routine circulation, shelf maintenance and clerical functions using automated circulation system.
  • Duties include charging books in and out, shelving library materials, data inputting, and telephone answering. Updates pocket parts. Assists with other general stacks maintenance.
  • This position is also invested with making beginning level library clerical decisions.
  • The work requires that the employee have some knowledge, skill and ability in library clerical functions.
  • Primarily responsible for assisting with circulation desk coverage, including but not limited to functions related to charging and discharging physical items, maintenance of records, missing books procedures, overdue or lost items notices and fines, opening and/or closing procedures, performing limited monetary transactions as needed; locating and processing materials for patron requests via online and manual systems; scanning requested documents for sending via various online systems; assisting library patrons with problems and questions; assisting in assuring accurate library shelving by shelf-reading and reshelving of materials, as needed; assisting with other general stacks maintenance.
  • May be responsible for assisting other circulation assistants with updating print collections with pocket parts and loose leaf updates and may be responsible for guiding students or other library assistants in all aspects of circulation. Performs other circulation related duties as assigned.
  • Work includes evenings and weekends.

Qualifications


Minimum Education and Experience
•High School diploma or equivalent, and/or up to 4 years of relevant office, clerical, bookkeeping, library assistant or related experience depending on the duties to be performed. 
•An equivalent combination of education and/or experience may be substituted for the experience requirement.

Library experience preferred. Knowledge of Library of Congress cataloguing system essential.
