The Vancouver Campus Librarian oversees the Learning Commons and coordinates planning, implementation and problem solving for all Vancouver Library functions.  Key areas of responsibility include reference services, library user instruction, access services, collection development, hiring and supervision of library student workers, interlibrary loan, and supporting campus and university library strategic planning.  Secondary areas of responsibility are faculty syllabus support, technical services support, general library programming and LibGuide development. 

Principal Responsibilities:

  • Provides reference and circulation assistance at the Vancouver Campus Library, including staffing the Information Desk, assisting students, faculty, and staff with reference questions, circulation of books, and assessment materials.
  • Trains and supervises student library workers and practicum students on the Information Desk.
  • Provides one-on-one research consultations to Vancouver Campus students and faculty on research skills and concepts, including utilization of library databases, systematic reviews/meta-analysis, conducting literature reviews and using citation management software.
  • Provides Vancouver Campus library instruction services including scheduling, creating lesson plans, preparation of class materials, teaching classes, as well as developing and maintaining LibGuides.
  • Manages the Doctor of Psychology program’s assessment collection by managing inventory, purchasing assessment materials, and reserving and preparing assessment kits and measures for individual PsyD students and classes.
  • Processes interlibrary loan requests for Vancouver students and faculty for materials not owned by Adler University.
  • Submits Adler Theses and Dissertations to Theses Canada.
  • Acquires and catalogues new materials by adhering to RDA cataloguing principles.
  • Curates the Vancouver Indigenous collection.
  • Ensures that the Library policies and procedures established by the Director of Library Services are applied consistently at the Vancouver Campus Library, while working with Vancouver Campus staff to adapt procedures to support local practice when possible.
  • Works with other Library staff to collect and analyze statistical data on Vancouver Campus Library operations, and reports on reference and instruction activity.
  • Collaborates with Vancouver Campus faculty and the Director of Library Services at the Chicago campus on recommendations of resource purchases for the Vancouver Campus Library.
  • Manages the Vancouver campus Library budget.
  • Works on special projects as established during the Library strategic planning process.
  • Serves on committees and represents the Vancouver Campus Library in other capacities as needed.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Experience/Training: 

    • ALA-accredited Master’s degree in Library and Information Science.
    • 3 years full-time professional experience in an academic library setting.
    • A strong interest in the breadth of library services offered in an academic setting.
    • Knowledge of current resources and practices in academic libraries, particularly in areas of reference service, access services, and library user instruction.
    • Experience with academic library policies and practices.
    • Experience with integrated library systems, preferably ILLiad and AlmaPrimo, and knowledge of online database systems.
    • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
    • Excellent critical-thinking and problem-resolution skills, including demonstrated success with analyzing, organizing, and presenting information, an ability to prioritize assignments, and an aptitude for complex, analytical work with attention to detail.
