Summary

TheDepartment of Social Sciences invites applications for a LEO Lecturer I, non-tenure-track appointment which begins September 3, 2024 through December 31, 2024 for the Fall 2024 term. Contractual full-time rate per term is $25,500; term salary is dependent on number of courses taught and course effort percentage, up to 100% appointment for the Fall 2024 term. The successful candidate will be comfortable teaching in a variety of modalities for the following Economics Courses:  

ECON 201 Principles of Macroeconomics, two to three sections at 25% effort each 

ECON 202 Principles of Microeconomics, one to two sections at 25% effort

ECON 201 and ECON 202 are low level undergraduate courses. 

ECON 201: Together with ECON 202, this course serves to introduce the student to the basic ideas and concepts of modern economic analysis, and applies them to current economic problems, policies and issues. The focus of this course is on macroeconomics: income and wealth, employment, and prices at the national level in the United States economy. 

ECON  202: Together with ECON 201, this course serves to introduce the student to the basic ideas and concepts of modern economic analysis, and applies them to current economic problems, policies, and issues. The focus of this course is on microeconomics, the behavior of consumers and firms and their interactions in specific markets.

Both classes count for 3 credits. The department needs to cover the following three sections:

ECON 201 - online, asynchronous 

ECON 201 - hybrid, Fridays 9:30-10:45 am

*ECON 201 - online, asynchronous 

ECON 202 - hybrid, Fridays 11:00 am -12:15 pm 

*ECON 202- online, asynchronous 

*possible additional sections dependent on enrollments


This is a one-semester non-tenured LEO Lecturer I Appointment, with no presumption of renewal. The Fall 2024 semester runs September 3, 2024 through December 31, 2024.

Responsibilities*

This is an instructional position. Duties include the preparation of lectures and other classroom activities, development of assignments such as exams and papers, evaluation of students? coursework, holding office hours and communicating with students in ECON 201 and ECON 202 throughout the semester.  UM-Dearborn uses the Canvas course management software, and the instructor will be expected to assemble and maintain a Canvas site for ECON 201 and/or ECON 202.


Required Qualifications*

At a minimum, candidates should hold an MA in economics and have taken graduate courses in advanced micro and macroeconomics. 

A demonstrated record of effective teaching.


Desired Qualifications*

Three years of teaching college-level courses.

Experience with teaching online and hybrid formats.

This position is covered under the collective bargaining agreement between the U-M and the Lecturers Employee Organization, AFL-CIO, which contains and settles all matters with respect to wages, benefits, hours and other terms and conditions of employment.
