Summary

The Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Michigan-Dearborn is inviting applications for an Lecturer I for Fall Term 2023 to teach BENG 381 Bioprocessing. The course will be taught in person at the Dearborn campus and meet on Mondays and Wednesdays at 2-3:45pm. The course will include lectures and laboratory exercises. Department will provide an experienced graduate student instructor to assist with the lab components of the course.

This is expected to be a 25% appointment.

Course Description
This course will introduce the students to the field of bioprocessing, where the engineering concepts are applied to convert raw materials to pharmaceuticals, chemicals and food using biological processes. Discussions will include application of bioprocess-engineering knowledge in designing, building, controlling, and operating the biologically driven processes. Typical applications include bioreactor design, material collection and scale-up considerations. The course will also introduce the pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics analysis concepts to the students and will serve as an introductory course to teach how to use these concepts to design bioprocess-engineering systems.


Required Qualifications*

A successful candidate will have expertise in a respective area. Master's degree in Bioengineering or a related field is required. A PhD degree will be considered as a plus. Relevant teaching experience and evidence of teaching excellence are desirable. Candidates will be evaluated based on submitted CV, teaching evaluations, and relevant recommendations.
