Summary:

HHMI is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Legal Operations Business Analyst to support the administrative operations of its legal department, the Office of the General Counsel (OGC), and ensure that the department functions effectively in support of HHMI’s mission, values, and operational and programmatic objectives.

The Legal Operations Business Analyst plays a crucial role in optimizing OGC business processes and implementing improvements to operational efficiency. This role offers the opportunity to work cross-functionally with various teams to support operational objectives and technical solutions that OGC and others in HHMI rely on. The ideal candidate stays informed about industry best practices and emerging trends and is eager to learn new things and apply knowledge to identify opportunities and aid in designing and implementing solutions.

The Legal Operations Business Analyst works closely with and reports to the Director, Legal Operations. The person in this role will report to HHMI’s headquarters in Chevy Chase, Maryland, three days a week.

What you’ll do:

  • Use critical thinking and creativity to support, develop, and improve the efficiency of new or existing initiatives to be most effective, specifically in process and project management, planning, and workflow efficiency.

  • Develop and manage resources and governance processes and provide training and support to ensure the successful adoption of processes and any related technologies.

  • Collaborate with colleagues to collect, document, and confirm requirements; prioritize technical initiatives based on departmental and institutional needs; and facilitate and participate in testing, launch efforts, and issue resolution for technical solutions.

  • Represent the OGC on interdepartmental committees covering operational matters as assigned.

  • Serve as an administrator and business lead in support of the management of HHMI policies, records, and department and select enterprise technical solutions.

  • Manage select content on the HHMI employee portal and public website, www.HHMI.org ; aid in developing new content and facilitate the review and update of content as prescribed or as needed.

  • Generate reports and respond to ad hoc queries in support of business decisions and assist with the management of data integrity of OGC-managed databases.

  • Facilitate onboarding and offboarding for OGC personnel.

  • Mentor and support any direct reports for growth and development.

  • Build and cultivate relationships with HHMI colleagues and the legal operations community.

What you bring:

  • Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent with a business orientation is preferred.

  • Minimum five years of professional experience supporting business operations or managing projects, preferably in a law firm or corporate legal department.

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise discretion and tact when handling sensitive or potentially sensitive issues.

  • Creative and logical analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to exercise independent judgment.

  • Ability to understand and interpret business requirements and contribute recommendations for continuous improvements toward greater efficiency and effectiveness.

  • Excellent and effective organizational, writing, and verbal communication skills.

  • Experience producing and presenting materials with visual, engaging, and insightful impact for intended audiences.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365; familiarity with Dynamics 365 and the iManage document and email management solution is a plus.

  • Ability to effectively work independently with strong attention to detail and follow-through.

  • Exceptional interpersonal skills with proven ability to establish trust and adopt a team-oriented outlook involving collaboration with colleagues.

  • Resourcefulness in managing competing priorities and adapting approaches to shifting demands.

Compensation Range

$87,807.20 (minimum) - $109,759.00 (midpoint) - $142,686.70 (maximum)

Pay Type:

Annual

HHMI’s salary structure is developed based on relevant job market data. HHMI considers a candidate's education, previous experiences, knowledge, skills and abilities, as well as internal equity when making job offers. Typically, a new hire for this position in this location is compensated between the minimum and the midpoint of the salary range.
