Legal Assistants (Collectors) at UCD are assigned to specific departmental clients (i.e. Rogers State, HSC, Bursar, College of Dentistry, Norman Bursar, Student Loans OU Physicians, Allied Health, Housing, Tax intercept) They are responsible for setting up client accounts, creating hard files, and contacting debtors in order to resolve delinquent accounts. These responsibilities include, are not limited to preparing legal pleadings, petitions and small claims lawsuits; working with court clerks, process servers, and Judges staff to file cases and set for hearings. They will work directly with the Director /Attorney to initiate legal action against non-paying debtors. Most importantly the Legal Assistant will be receiving, storing, utilizing maintaining, and communicating sensitive information such as student identification numbers, social security numbers, sensitive demographic information and other private information protected by federal acts such as Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act and the Health Insurance Portability & Accountability Act. 

 

Job Requirements

Required Education: GED/High School Grad or equivalent combination of education/job related experience, AND:

  • 12-24 months office/management

Skills:

  • Knowledge of standard bookkeeping and accounting procedures
  • Advanced excel skills with ability to build and manipulate spreadsheets
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office
  • Detail oriented for accuracy of data and information
  • Able to communicate well and build rapport quickly with students, faculty and staff

Certifications:

  • Drivers license to attend court hearings etc.

Advertised Physical Requirements:

  • Physically able to perform normal office tasks, such as carrying files, moving boxes, bending and squatting.
  • Must be able to engage in repetitive motion and communicate effectively.

Departmental Preferences:

  • Associates degree 
  • Prior experience in a Legal office & paralegal license or equivalent education/training

Supervision: No Supervisory Duties
