Position Summary/Purpose of Position:
The Department of Psychology at the University of Maryland is seeking a lecturer to begin January 1, 2023. This is a 1.0 FTE, 9-month position with a three-year contract, with the possibility of renewal. Approximately 90% percent of the lecturer’s commitment will be teaching undergraduate courses, with the remaining effort dedicated to service activities. Courses to be taught include introductory psychology, social psychology, and research methods, as well as courses in the lecturer’s areas of specialization, and others as needed by the Department.
The Department of Psychology has approximately 1475 enrolled undergraduate students making it one of the most popular undergraduate majors at Maryland. We offer approximately 80 undergraduate courses each academic year. Lecturers play a crucial role in the academic life of the Department, through teaching and mentoring undergraduate psychology students, providing innovations to course and curriculum design, and serving on departmental committees. The commitment of the Department to undergraduate education has been recognized through numerous awards to faculty for their teaching accomplishments.
Minimum Qualifications:
Requirements for the position include: a Ph.D. in Social Psychology, or a closely related field; experience teaching psychology courses at the college level; demonstrated investment in diversity and inclusion; and evidence of excellence in teaching as well as a commitment to undergraduate education. Proficiency with statistical methods, including programming languages (e.g., R, Python) as well as experience with the latest teaching technologies and innovative course development is highly desirable. Salary is competitive, and there are opportunities for additional compensation for teaching in winter and summer sessions.
