Position Summary/Purpose of Position: | The Department of Anthropology invites applications for a full-time, 9-month, Professional Track facultyappointment at the rank of Lecturer or Senior Lecturer with an expertise in Medical Anthropology and Global Health to begin in August 2024. We seek a scholar with a Ph.D. in Anthropology to teach courses for the University’s new interdisciplinary Global Health major. Candidates should demonstrate a strong background knowledge of the structural dimensions of global health governance and policy from an anthropological perspective. Additionally, we desire a colleague whose teaching and research are grounded in publicly engaged, justice-oriented approaches to addressing health inequalities. We are particularly interested in candidates who demonstrate a commitment to decolonial/postcolonial and/or feminist/queer approaches to classroom instruction. Candidates whose interests expand our current expertise are especially encouraged to apply. The initial appointment will be for 1 year, with the possibility of renewal on a 3-5 year schedule thereafter. The position carries a 3-3 teaching load. The two Anthropology courses required for the new major, Introduction to Medical Anthropology and Global Health (ANTH 210) and Method and Theory in Medical Anthropology and Global Health (ANTH 310), will be the core teaching responsibility of this position each semester. The remainder of the workload will be devoted to teaching other related courses in the Anthropology Department, service activities such as mentoring and advising students, and serving on departmental committees. Applicants should submit the following information: 1) a cover letter that addresses relevant experience for the position and potential contributions to our departmental commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and social justice (DEIJ), 2) a current curriculum vitae, 3) a teaching philosophy statement, 4) at least one relevant course syllabus, and 5) names and contact information for three professional references to be contacted after the initial screening of applications. While research productivity is not a requirement of this position, we welcome a brief description in your cover letter of how your research agenda (in anthropology, global health, education, or other related areas) may influence or enhance your teaching. Materials should be submitted electronically to https://ejobs.umd.edu. |
