Position Overview

The Department of Computer Science and Engineering is accepting applications for a full-time Lecturer or Senior Lecture appointment to teach undergraduate and/or graduate course(s)in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering. Duties include but are not limited to: curriculum/syllabus design, content and materials development, teaching, and service activities. The selected candidate(s) will be expected to complete activities and provide support for developing and teaching undergraduate and/or graduate students, depending on chosen candidate’s degree certification.

All courses are taught in person on the University’s main campus in Columbus, Ohio. 

A successful candidate will display leadership and ability for collaboration in an academic environment. Experience and training in teaching skills. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with desire and ability to work constructively, decisively, and collegially with external and internal colleagues and interdisciplinary teams.

We seek individuals with the ability to work independently: proactive self-starter with strong project leadership skills.

A successful candidate will display innovative thinking, open to sharing ideas and willing to continuously learn.

Candidates should indicate areas of teaching strength within computer science in their application.  We will consider applicants in all areas of computer science, and especially welcome applicants with teaching strengths in introductory programming, software engineering, discrete mathematics, algorithms, computer architecture, and operating systems at the undergraduate level.

Education and Experience Requirements

Required :

  • Advanced degree in computing or related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • A commitment to or demonstrated efforts in teaching that reflect Ohio State’s Shared Values.

Desired :

  • PhD degree or equivalent in Computer Science, Mathematics, or a related area, OR a MS degree and 5 years of teaching experience with documentation of high-quality teaching, OR extensive experience (20+ years) in the computing field.

Department Information

The Department of Computer Science and Engineering is one of the oldest computing programs in the country and is a national leader in computing research and education. We create, teach, and actualize the principles that connect computing and society while advancing the forefront of foundational computer science into interdisciplinary realms. With current strength of 56 tenure-track faculty and 9 faculty of practice, the department is poised for a large-scale expansion over the next few years. The department continues to raise its national and international research profile, as exemplified by the recent NSF awards for two AI Institutes and a Harnessing the Data Revolution Institute, netting a total of $55M in research funding. The department will continue to invest in creative and team science activities leading to ever increasing strengths in both foundational and applied AI while advancing traditional topics of computer science. The department is also developing innovative academic programs centered on AI and data analytics with various campus partners in topics such as cybersecurity, data analytics, digital health, and multimedia. CSE faculty closely collaborate with various centers on campus including the Translational Data Analytics Institute (TDAI), the Initiative for Food and Agricultural Transformation (InFACT), and the Ohio Supercomputer Center. CSE is vested in creating new and strengthening existing Diversity and Inclusion programs to provide an inclusive environment that will welcome all scholars. The department, through its growth, research prowess, academic offerings, and a welcoming culture, is poised to be the hub of computing scholarship and education on OSU’s campus.
