Position Summary:

The University of Dayton's Department of Economics & Finance invites applicants for a position as Lecturer specializing in Finance. Our department represents one of the most popular majors on campus, and provides opportunities for students to Learn, Lead, and Serve through a career in finance.

The Lecturer position provides an exciting opportunity for experienced professionals to educate our business students in all parts of the field of finance. We are looking for someone passionate about teaching and willing to create an inclusive environment for the University of Dayton’s students to learn more about finance and business. An ideal candidate will have extensive (at least seven years) work experience in finance and experience in business education (including college level instruction or leading professional development programs and workshops).

As a Lecturer, this position will teach in the Department of Economics & Finance. The department offers an undergraduate and graduate degree in finance, and supports the School of Business Administration’s MBA programs. This position’s teaching load will be four courses (12 credits) in each of the fall and spring semesters, which likely will include some of the following classes: FIN 301 (Introduction to Financial Management), FIN 360 (Investments), FIN 371 (Financial Markets & Institutions), FIN 401 (Advanced Corporate Finance), and MBA 796 (Corporate Finance). In the future, additional courses directly related to the successful applicant’s expertise could be included as part of their regular course load.

Other responsibilities include service and support of extracurricular initiatives for the department, School, University, and/or profession, and collaborative engagement with students and colleagues. The university seeks to increase opportunities for students to engage in experiential learning, and the department would want the successful applicant to be a part of this initiative.

The University of Dayton provides several opportunities for lecturers to grow in their roles. Our Learning Resource Center hosts ongoing pedagogical training and development, and there are opportunities to pursue additional business education-specific training. The position also receives the full employee benefit package. Finally, individuals serving five years or more in the lecturer role are eligible to be considered for promotion in accordance with the School of Business Administration’s and University’s lecturer promotion policy.

The Department of Economics & Finance is a great place for an experienced professional to have a positive impact on students. We are the home of the Davis Center for Portfolio Management, where student managers oversee the $60 million Flyer Fund. We also have the Hanley Center for ESG Investing, focused on educating students on the latest in ESG investing techniques. The department also sponsors UD2NYC, an annual trip to Wall Street. Lecturers in finance would also have access to many professional data resources, including Bloomberg, FactSet, Morningstar, and the Wall Street Journal. The department strives to engage students in experiential learning, and would want any new lecturer in finance to take an important role in expanding on these opportunities to impact every student.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Graduate Degree in finance, economics, business, or other related discipline;
  • 7 years of experience in investments, banking, corporate finance, or other allied industry;
  • Effective written communication skills
Preferred Qualifications:

While not everyone may meet all preferred qualifications, the ideal candidate will bring many of the following:

  • Terminal degree in finance or related discipline
  • Financial certifications or credentials (e.g., CFA, CFP, CMA)
  • Leadership experience in a corporate finance setting (e.g., CFO, controller, treasurer)
  • Successful experience with one or more of the following:
    • Teaching finance courses at the college level
    • Designing or leading professional workshops and training courses
    • Applying industry-standard corporate finance techniques
    • Applying industry-standard banking techniques
    • Applying industry-standard investment techniques
    • Administrative responsibilities, including budget and planning
    • Mentoring, teaching, and/or collaborating in socially and culturally diverse communities
  • Effective presentation skills.
  • Proficient analytical and quantitative skills
  • Effective oral communication skills
  • Effective interpersonal communication skills
  • Commitment to breadth of education including educating the whole person in the Marianist tradition and a commitment of service to the community, university and profession.
