Title Lecturer/Senior Lecturer/Professor of Practice in Game Design
Appointment Status Non-Tenure Track
Department IU Bloomington Media School
Location Bloomington
Position Summary
The Media School at Indiana University Bloomington seeks game industry professionals interested in transitioning to education and mentoring the next generation of game designers.
We invite applications for a full-time non-tenure-track faculty position in game design. We seek candidates with senior experience in the game industry as well as a deep understanding of the game design process. Ideal candidates have experience mentoring young professionals, or perhaps even adjunct teaching experience at the university level, although this latter qualification is not required. A bachelor’s degree is required and an advanced degree preferred, though significant professional experience will be considered in lieu of an advanced academic degree. Applicants may also have experience with some aspect of the production pipeline. Ideal candidates will be those with significant national or international recognition who can be hired as a Professor of Practice, teaching two courses per semester (fall and spring) with more creative and service expectations. These candidates understand the industry, particularly creative, management, or entrepreneurial roles. There is potential for leadership within the program, including directorship of the BS in Game Design. Those hired as Lecturer/Senior Lecturer would teach three courses per semester (fall and spring) on the game industry, advanced design classes, special topics courses based on expertise, and the student capstone sequence. In addition, these applicants remain active in the industry and bring that experience to the classroom.
Applications should include a cover letter, curriculum vitae, teaching statement, and a list of academic or professional references. The teaching statement should describe why you want to teach and reflect on your philosophy of teaching and learning as well as concrete ways you have put that into practice. Applicants are encouraged to include examples of classroom experience, mentorship, work with professional organizations, contributions to diversity and inclusion in the workplace, and other contributions to the industry.
Applications will be reviewed immediately, and the position will remain open until filled. Applications received by October 6, 2023, will be given full consideration. Interested candidates should submit application materials online at https://indiana.peopleadmin.com/postings/19681 . The expected start date is August 1, 2024.
