Lecturer/Senior Lecturer of Computer Science
AD-1701-03/05
Department of Computer Science
Naval Postgraduate School, Monterey, CA

The Naval Postgraduate School (NPS) is accepting applications for multiple openings as Lecturer/Senior Lecturer in the Department of Computer Science (non-tenure track, on an intermittent schedule). We are especially interested in candidates with recent strong CS core topic teaching experience in one of more of these areas: networking, cybersecurity, cyber operations, network security, data science, distributed systems, artificial intelligence, machine learning, or parallel processing.

Our students consist primarily of U.S. and international military officers seeking master’s degrees, U.S. civilians entering the Cyber Corps who already have bachelor's degrees or higher and are seeking master’s degrees, and a few PhD students. We specialize in cyber security, networking, modeling and simulation, artificial intelligence, software engineering, and data science. Through research, we foster close collaboration with our military, civilian, and international counterparts, supported by state-of-the-art national and international laboratories.  NPS is located close to the technology hubs of the San Francisco Bay Area and are very well connected in the US Navy and DoD cyber security and big data communities.

We seek applicants with the following skills and experience:   (1) Recent (past 5 years) in-depth experience in one or more of the core topic areas mentioned above.  (2) Recent (past 5 years) teaching experience in one or more of:  introductory programming, computer architecture, x86 or ARM assembly programming, introductory and/or intermediate networking, introductory artificial intelligence, introductory machine learning, introductory cyber security, topics in intermediate cybersecurity, C language programming and toolsets. (3) Academically published research or applications in the core-topic areas are preferred.

We seek to fill the position by July 2024 and will consider applications beginning May 15, 2024. We are interested in applicants who can teach resident courses at NPS in Monterey, CA as well as distance learning courses delivered online.  In your application package, include your CV, the names of three references, and a sample of your published work, if any. Discuss in your cover letter why you are interested in this position and comment on your initial teaching interests, research goals, and capabilities, as well as what locality(ies) you are available to teach at. The appointment will be made at the Lecturer or Senior Lecturer level, depending upon the candidate’s experience.
