Primary Purpose of the Organizational Unit
An interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary program that includes online humanities, social science and professional studies curriculum as well as in-person curriculum in archaeology, international & global studies, religious studies. The program also houses the Network for the Cultural Study of Videogaming.
Position Summary
The Liberal and Professional Studies Department at the University of North Carolina Greensboro seeks candidates for a professional track position in Islam. We expect to fill the position at the rank of Lecturer. The area of specialization is open, but the candidate should be familiar with Religious Studies theories and methods, prepared to teach our introductory Islam course and upper-division courses in Islamic Studies, as well as introductory courses in International & Global Studies. The occupant of this position will teach courses cross-listed in Religious Studies (major and minor programs), International & Global Studies (IGS) (major and minor), and Islamic Studies (IS) (minor). In addition, the occupant of the position will assist in advising IGS (majors and minors) and Islamic Studies minors and assist in directing the Islamic Studies Research Network. The Program emphasizes an interdisciplinary liberal arts approach. Along with this conceptual orientation, evidence of excellence in teaching undergraduates will positively influence our deliberations. The teaching load is 4/4 per year. The candidate will also have advising duties in IS and IGS and coordinating duties for IS. The position includes teaching online asynchronous courses and in-person courses.
Minimum Qualifications
Masters in Religious Studies, International Studies or related field.
Preferred Qualifications
PhD in Religious Studies, International Studies or related field.
