General Information
The James Madison University College of Business is seeking applicants for a Lecturer in the Department of Computer Information Systems & Business Analytics (CIS & Business Analytics) beginning Fall 2024. The position is a renewable term appointment (RTA). The teaching load for this position is 12 credit hours per semester (4/4). This is a full-time benefits-eligible, non-tenure track appointment.
About the Department: The Department of CIS & BSAN is an academic unit of the College of Business and has 25 full-time faculty members, over 600 CIS majors in 3 concentrations (IS, Business Analytics, and Information and Cybersecurity Management), 80 CIS minors, and over 40 BSAN minors and growing. In addition, the department supports the college by providing core business classes in information systems, quantitative methods, business statistics, and operations management. The department places a primary emphasis on its undergraduate programs that include hands-on projects, laboratory exercises, case analyses, and engaging classroom experiences designed to prepare graduates to work independently and in team-oriented environments. The CIS program is accredited by ABET, making the department one of only 10 CIS programs in the nation accredited by both the AACSB and ABET.
In addition to high involvement in undergraduate education, departmental faculty members play a vital role in the delivery of the Executive Leadership MBA, Innovation MBA, and Information Security MBA programs. Outside the academic community, faculty members maintain strong connections with the consulting industry in Northern Virginia, Richmond, and Washington, D.C., and interact regularly with members of the department’s advisory board.
About the College: The AACSB-accredited College of Business includes nationally ranked undergraduate and graduate programs. Recently, the Information Security MBA was recognized as #1 in the nation for the Best Online Information Security MBA Programs, and #16 in the Princeton Review’s list of the top 25 Online MBA Programs. The college includes the Center for Entrepreneurship, Center for Professional Selling, Small Business Development Center, Capital Markets Lab, Madison Consulting, and other programs focused on outreach and engagement with the business community. Our very successful alumni hold C-suite positions at major corporations including SAP, Fidelity, Bank of America, IBM, McKinsey & Company, Deloitte, KPMG, and other Fortune 500 companies and readily engage with the college. Five years post-graduation, Virginia residents attending the college had the highest return-on-investment of the 82 business schools included in Poets & Quants 2017 undergraduate business program ranking. The faculty are teacher-scholars who are collaborative and supportive colleagues. The college has approximately 4,300 students in its AACSB programs and is highly regarded across the JMU campus community.

This position has primary teaching responsibilities in the CIS area. The primary course taught will be Computer Information Systems (COB 204), an introductory course covering computer-based information systems for students with a major in the College of Business or a CIS minor. Secondary teaching may include courses within the upper-division CIS curriculum. The ideal candidate can teach across at least one other of our areas of concentration in the major (i.e., business analytics and/or information and cybersecurity management).
In addition to teaching responsibilities and office hours, the successful candidate will be expected to perform service activities such as serving on departmental committees, advising student organizations, and attending university meetings, as well as maintaining professional qualifications according to AACSB standards. Maintaining professional qualifications can be accomplished through a variety of avenues including, but not limited to, continuing education and certifications, consulting, serving on boards, recognized professional expertise in the teaching discipline, publications, and university administrative duties. These requirements can be met in several ways, providing the candidate the ability to contribute based upon their strengths, abilities, and interests. It is anticipated that in order to meet these obligations, the successful candidate will need to be available for potential on-campus activities during multiple days throughout the week.
The department fosters a collegial and collaborative team environment that supports student success and faculty development and growth.

A strong foundation in business applications is desired. The ideal candidate will be able to demonstrate through professional activities a commitment and ability to contribute to experiential and intellectual inclusive excellence within the department.
The CIS & Business Analytics Department is especially interested in qualified candidates who can contribute, through their teaching, professional qualifications, and/or service, to the inclusive excellence of the JMU academic community.
