The Department of Communication and Media Studies at California State University San Marcos seeks a part-time lecturer for Fall 2024 to teach MDIA 455: Television and Culture. This is an upper division studio course that meets in person. The course is to be delivered asynchronously online. Salary is commensurate with credentials and experience.

Catalog Course Description:
Analyzes television programs to examine representations of race, ethnicity, social class, gender, sexual preference, and other related categories. Explores the practices, conventions, and ideologies that shape the production and consumption of television programs. Examines how television contributes to the interpretation and discussion of social activities that affect the ways people view society and social groups.
Minimum qualifications:
- ABD in Communication/Media Studies or closely related field;
- Experience with and demonstrated effectiveness with in-person classroom instruction and with Learning Management Systems such as Canvas, Moodle, or Blackboard;
- Per the California State University’s Out-of-State Employment Policy, the CSU is prohibited from hiring employees to perform CSU-related work outside California. Working in the State of California is a condition of employment.
Preferred qualifications:
- A doctorate in Communication/Media Studies or closely related field;
- Pertinent expertise to teach courses in our Communication/Media Studies programs
- Higher education teaching experience with minimum of 1 year as teacher of record pertinent to subject area
- Preference will be given to applicants with demonstrated commitment to diversity, inclusivity, and/or intercultural competence with diverse groups in relation to teaching.
Salary commensurate with degree level and experience
- Anticipated Hiring Salary Range: $5,007 - $8,000 per full-time month
- CSU Classification Salary Range: $5,007 - $12,594 per full-time month
