: 

The Liberal Studies program at the University of Houston seeks to hire one or more lecturers to teach courses in epistemology and ethics . The ideal candidate will be passionate about teaching, organizing seminar discussions, and mentoring students. The selected candidate will also assist the director of the program with grading and mentoring student projects. Candidates should also have an interdisciplinary background. Liberal Studies students combiune three minors from curricular programs both within and beyond the College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences.

The 3 positions include:

1) Lecturer for Knowledge and Methods . This course, co-taught with the program director, covers an introduction to epistemology (skepticism and its enemies, internalism vs. externalism, epistemic justification, theories of truth).  Among the duties are conducting a weekly hour-long discussion section to complement the course lectures and paper grading.

2) Lecturer for Interdisciplinary Problem Solving . This course in applied philosophy , co-taught with the program director, covers an introduction to ethical theories and prepares students for their final projects, integrating perspectives from their chosen minors.  The student project assignment consists of identifying an interdisciplinary ethical/ social/ political problem to solve, and integrating the knowledge and methods of the student’s three minors.  Among the duties are conducting a weekly hour-long discussion section and paper grading.

3) Lecturer for Ethics and Cultures . This online or hybrid course prepares students for the ethical challenges of their future careers in professional environments.

Qualifications

: 

Candidate must hold a master's degree in related discipline.
