Scope of Job
We seek applicants who are dedicated to serving The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley’s student body as a Lecturer at the Department of Economics beginning in the 2024-2025 academic year.
The position is a full-time three-year contract with possibility for renewal. The minimum requirement for candidates is a Master’s degree with 18 graduate credit hours of course in Economics. However, preferred candidates should have a Ph.D. in Economics or a closely related field by the beginning of Fall 2024. We seek dedicated and excellent teachers’ intent on improving student success, preparing exceptional professionals in Economics, as well as continuing the tradition of promoting the social mobility of our students. Experience of teaching Economics in higher education in a culturally diverse setting is strongly preferred. We are a Hispanic-serving institution located in South Texas near the US-Mexico border. While no research is expected of a lecturer, ten percent of a lecturer’s time may be devoted to research if he or she so chooses. The teaching load for this position is 4 courses per semester (4-4 during the year).

UTRGV is a distributed institution. As such and as assigned, the position may
require presence at multiple locations throughout the Rio Grande Valley. Work is
performed primarily in a general office environment. This position is security sensitive
and thereby subject to the provisions of the Texas Education Code
§51.215. The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of
Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least
135 days in length. This position has the option to elect the Optional Retirement
Program (ORP) instead of TRS, subject to the position being 40 hours per week
and at least 135 days in length.
