Job Summary:

Under the general supervision of the Director of the Information School (iSchool), teach one or more of the following courses in an online format during the 2023-24 summer semester June 10 - August 11, 2024.
LIS 202 Information Divides and Differences in a Multicultural Society
LIS 440 Navigating the Data Revolution: Concepts of Data & Information Science
LIS 632 Metadata Standards and XML
LIS 712 The Public Library
Principal duties for each course:
Preparation of a pre-approved syllabus in consultation with iSchool staff, preparation and grading of assignments and examinations, holding synchronous office hours and communicating with students via email, virtual meetings, or by other means.


Responsibilities:
Facilitates classroom, online, and/or laboratory instruction and assists with instructional development and design for a single course or series of courses within an academic discipline to support the delivery of quality instruction. Provides for-credit instruction in formats such as classroom, online and/or laboratory settings, including grading. Serves as an instructor of record.
  • 80% Facilitates classroom, online and/or laboratory instruction for one or more courses, including assessment of student performance
  • 10% Develops instructional design and curriculum relevant to a course of instruction
  • 10% Serves as an initial point of contact for students as it relates to specific course or series content and expectations

Education:

Minimum of a Master's degree in Library and Information Studies or closely related field is required.


Qualifications:

LIS 202 Information Divides & Differences in a Multicultural Society
Experience teaching material about the socio-political landscape, especially as related to race/ethnicity, and the information society required. Teaching at the college or university level required. Experience teaching online preferred.
LIS 440 Navigating the Data Revolution: Concepts of Data & Information Science
Knowledge of data science. Experience with analysis of real-world data and development of graphical visualizations. Knowledge of and experience using statistical tests, best practices in data management and data programming and data visualization. Knowledge of data ethics principles. Experience teaching online preferred.
LIS 632 Metadata Standards and XML
Knowledge of the design and use of metadata for resource description and retrieval in digital environments. Experience with implementing and evaluating standard schemes used in cultural heritage, commercial and other contexts including Dublin Core, MODS, VRA and others. Knowledge of the issues of information behavior, interoperability, quality control, vocabulary control and project management. Experience teaching at the college level and online preferred.
LIS 712 The Public Library
Experience in public libraries, especially in the areas of strategic planning, outreach and partnership, marketing, working with local governments, board of directors, and funders required. Previous teaching experience and experience in an online learning environment preferred.


Work Type:

Full or Part Time: 50% - 100%
It is anticipated this position will be remote and requires work be performed at an offsite, non-campus work location.

Terminal, 2 month appointment.


Salary:

Minimum $47,727 SUMMER SESSION
