The Department of Philosophy and the Cognitive Science Program at Columbia University seek to hire a lecturer in the philosophy of cognitive science.  This is a full-time position, starting July 1, 2024, with initial appointment for one year, and the possibility of renewal for a second year. Primary responsibilities include teaching three undergraduate courses per year, and serving as Columbia Director of Undergraduate Studies for the Cognitive Science Program. The three courses would include some combination of Philosophy of Mind, Cognitive Science and Philosophy, Senior Project Seminar, and Introduction to Cognitive Science, the last of which would be co-taught. The responsibilities of the Director include advising undergraduate students on major requirements, specializations, and electives; ensuring transfer credits meet program requirements; certifying students for graduation; organizing an Open House in one of the semesters; inviting guests for the "Lunch and Lecture" series; communicating with the Steering Committee about proposed changes to the program; and working closely with the Barnard Director of Cognitive Science. A Ph.D., demonstrated excellence in teaching, and a background in cognitive science are all required. Application review will begin immediately and continue until the position is filled.
