University of Baltimore—The School of Public and International Affairs (SPIA) in the College of Public Affairs invites applications for a lecturer in the Politics, Policy, and International Affairs B.A. program to begin in fall 2024.

Primary teaching responsibilities will be in SPIA’s Policy, Politics, and International Affairs undergraduate program, with the potential to teach in affiliated graduate programs, including the Master of Public Administration and the Global Affairs and Human Security program, depending on expertise. Evidence of teaching effectiveness in asynchronous and synchronous online instruction will be viewed favorably, as will experience teaching across modalities.

Successful candidates for the position will be able to teach general coursework in political science, international affairs, and/or public policy, as well as quantitative methods. Candidates will ideally have subject matter expertise in 21st-century policy issues (including but not limited to environmental policy, global health policy, trade policy, or international affairs in Africa or the developing world). In addition, candidates who can connect students with real-world problems in need of solutions, including the policymakers or bodies addressing these issues, will be viewed favorably. Expertise in diversity, equity, and inclusion will also be deemed highly favorable.

Candidates for the position must hold a doctorate in political science, public administration, public policy, or a related discipline. Candidates must also demonstrate a strong record of quality instruction and applied research activities. Competitive applicants will have a commitment to collaborative, interdisciplinary research, and a passion for integrating multiple approaches to confronting the many challenges facing government and nonprofit organizations. Successful candidates must also demonstrate experience in, or potential for, service relevant to the university, the profession, and engagement with the broader community. The successful candidate will be expected to teach eight courses per academic year (4 per semester).

SPIA has eighteen full-time faculty members, and several emeritus faculty, with advanced degrees from an array of distinguished universities, including Harvard University, Johns Hopkins University, Columbia University, George Washington University, and George Mason University.
