Description of Work
The Department of Physics and Astronomy at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln (UNL) is seeking a full-time lecturer to teach Introductory Astronomy and Physics courses beginning fall semester 2024. This is a non-tenure track position with a 9-month academic year appointment and full benefits. This position has the potential to be renewed. There are no assigned duties during the summer months, but there are opportunities for summer teaching for additional salary.
Responsibilities will include teaching multiple sections of introductory astronomy and/or physics courses, managing teaching assistants assigned to the courses, and holding student office hours. Mentoring undergraduate research projects may also be included. We seek an individual who has an abiding interest in teaching and collaborating with departmental faculty to facilitate an engaging and enriching learning experience for the students.

Minimum Required Qualifications
  • M.S. in Astronomy, Physics, or a related field.
  • Previous teaching experience in higher education (including as a Teaching Assistant).
Preferred Qualifications
  • Ph.D. in Astronomy or Physics.
  • At least one year of teaching experience in higher education as the instructor of record.
  • Demonstrated ability to teach introductory astronomy and/or physics in large-enrollment introductory courses.
  • Demonstrated ability to use physics education research-informed teaching methods.
  • Demonstrated inclusive teaching practices being used in the classroom.
