The University of Maine seeks to fill a position for a lecturer in mathematics, anticipated to begin September 3, 2024. This position is ongoing, subject to satisfactory performance. Essential duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, undergraduate teaching in mathematics and/or statistics. Service to the department and university, and participating collegially in the life of the department are also expected. This is a nine-month, academic-year position. Summer teaching opportunities may be available with additional compensation.

Required:


  • A graduate degree in mathematics, applied mathematics or statistics by date of hire.
  • Demonstrated effective college-level teaching.
  • Effective written and oral communication skills.

Preferred:

  • Candidates with doctoral degrees in mathematics, applied mathematics or statistics may be given preference; some preference may also be given to candidates with other doctoral degrees, depending on the relevance of the area of the doctorate.
  • Breadth of teaching experience will be given some preference, depending on the relevance to the department’s mission of the classes taught.
