Basic Function
Under the direction of the Dean, the full-time lecturer/director is responsible for providing academic instruction to students for the assigned graduate courses. As a lecturer, the faculty member will serve as a mentor to students; contribute to department and university activities as needed; and provide service to faculty and/or university committees as outlined in the faculty handbook.
The Department of Learning & Teaching offers credential programs in Multiple Subjects (elementary), Single Subjects (secondary), and Educational Specialists (Mild to Moderate, Moderate to Severe, and Deaf and Hard of Hearing). Common responsibilities for the position include teaching in the programs, student advisement, and service to the university and broader community.
The director of the general education program will provide support to teacher candidates, field supervisors, school principals, and cooperating teachers. Additionally, the director will provide oversight and leadership for coursework, assessments, and placements within the general education program.
Representative Duties
  • Carry a 32-unit course load per year based upon teaching and leadership assignments. E
  • Provide leadership for the construction of the departmental schedule each semester. E
  • Integrate current and emerging instructional delivery technologies into the learning process across classroom and online settings. E
  • Exhibit sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, social, economic, cultural, and ethnic background of university students. E
  • Participate in service to the department, school, university, and P-22 (i.e., preschool through higher education) community. E
  • Demonstrate commitment to professional excellence and continuous growth within the subject, field, or discipline. E
  • Participate in service to the department, school, university, and K-12 community. E
  • Attend departmental and school wide meetings. E
  • Support teacher candidates in completing their edTPA. E
  • Contribute to accreditation activities as needed. E

Minimum Qualifications
  • Three to five years of K-12 experience
  • Evidence of sustained teaching effectiveness
  • Possession of a master’s degree in education, educational leadership, or a related field
Preferred Qualifications
  • Understanding of California’s Teacher Performance Expectations (TPEs) and teacher candidate assessment (i.e., edTPA)
  • Knowledge of and experience with local, state, and national educational issues and trends across the K-12 pipeline
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity and equity
  • Understanding of the diverse academic, social, economic, cultural, and ethnic background of university students
  • An ability and desire to mentor African American, Latinx, and Native American students

  • Experience in the effective use of technology in educational practice
  • Successful involvement with university-public school partnerships
  • Pedagogical experience with hybrid or online teaching strategies
  • Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills

Indoor classroom environment; subject to visiting a variety of classroom sites on campus.
Hiring Range $56,000 - $80,000
