Job Description:

The Department of Middle Eastern and Ancient Mediterranean Studies at Binghamton University (SUNY) invites applications for the position of Lecturer in Latin and ancient Greek. This is a full-time position (two-year contract) with possible renewal. The effective appointment date is 1 September, 2024. The official academic year obligation for 2024-2025 begins on 19 August, 2024. The teaching load is three course sections per semester, with a focus on Latin and ancient Greek language teaching at the beginner and intermediate levels, and with the option to teach classes with readings in English online during the winter and summer interterms for additional compensation. Teaching responsibilities may also include an introductory course in ancient Greek, Roman, or Mediterranean culture with readings in English.

Applicants specializing in Latin and/or ancient Greek philology should have the PhD in hand by the beginning of the appointment (1 September, 2024). We seek candidates who have experience teaching Latin and ancient Greek at the college/university level. Candidates who are experienced with technologies in language teaching, online teaching, and teaching a diverse student body are desirable.
