Position Summary
The School of Mathematics, Science, and Engineering is seeking part-time faculty candidates for Lecturer in Biology. The Lecturer in Biology presents lectures and/or labs in undergraduate and or graduate core biology, including anatomy and physiology courses and a variety of labs. In all matters, faculty are expected to maintain the highest standards of professional ethics consistent with the UIW Mission. Official duties and responsibilities of faculty members at the University include teaching, scholarship, service, and professional activities as assigned.
This applicant pool will remain online and be used to hire interested part-time faculty as needed for the 2023-2024 Academic Year.

Essential Functions
  • Teach assigned classes under the guidance of the department chair, to include undergraduate and or graduate core biology, including anatomy and physiology courses, and a variety of labs.
  • Prepare course outlines and teach assigned courses based on approved departmental syllabi under the direction of the course coordinator.
  • Prepare all exams and assessments needed for the assigned course(s).
  • Work collaboratively with departmental faculty to ensure standard curriculum outcomes are met.
  • Be available outside of class to help students learn and to answer their questions (1 hour per 3-hour class, physically and/or electronically).
  • Conduct respectful relationships with faculty, staff, and students both in and outside the classroom.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications


Knowledge Skills and Abilities
  • Ability to teach undergraduate and/or graduate core biology courses including anatomy and physiology;
  • Ability to effectively learn and use instructional technology;
  • Willingness and flexibility to teach day, evening, and weekend sections as needed;
  • Ability to incorporate technology into teaching;
  • Ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse communities and cultures.
  • Employee shall adhere to all applicable rules and regulations of the University, the Conference, and the NCAA.
Required Education
Master’s Degree in Biology or Master’s Degree in related field with 18 graduate hours in Biology-related areas.
Required Work Experience
None.
Preferred Qualifications
Previous experience teaching at the college level, preferably biology courses/labs in the following areas: introductory biology for majors & non-majors, microbiology, cell biology, ecology, and anatomy & physiology.
