Lecturer (FWS)


The successful candidates will teach a full-time course load of 3 courses per semester. These courses will primarily be FWS courses with the opportunity to teach one non-FWS 2000-level literature course each spring semester, to be determined based on the lecturer's experience and interests along with the department's curricular needs. During some semesters, the lecturer may serve as course leader--supervising FWS courses taught by graduate student instructors and temporary lecturers--as the equivalent of one course.
Required qualifications are a PhD in English language and literature or similar literary field and experience teaching writing and literature at the undergraduate level. Candidates should have experience developing syllabi and teaching as the instructor of record. Preferred qualifications are experience or demonstrated ability in supervising graduate student instructors and/or contributing to pedagogical training for graduate students.

This is a full-time, benefits eligible position beginning July 1, 2024. Visa sponsorship and relocation support are not available for this position. Lecturers must teach in person on Cornell's Ithaca campus.
Two confidential letters of recommendation that speak to the candidate's teaching ability may be solicited later.

Pay Range: $49,700 - $122,000. Actual salary offers in the College of Arts and Sciences will be based on education, experience, discipline, and relevant skills.

  • Prior relevant work or industry experience.

  • Education level to the extent education is relevant to the position.

  • Academic Discipline (faculty pay ranges reflects 9-month annual salary)
