Job Summary
East Tennessee State University’s (ETSU) Department of Computing is seeking a Lecturer in Computing who will also serve as the Assistant Director of CSCI 1100, a Computing technology survey course required for all ETSU students. This is a non-tenure, 12-month position.
The primary responsibilities of this position include:
  • Overseeing the day-to-day operations of CSCI 1100 Graduate Assistants
  • Managing the CSCI 1100 proficiency exam
  • Assisting the Director with course development and addressing student and graduate assistant issues
  • Teaching undergraduate courses offered by the Department of Computing, based on the department’s needs
  • Completing service activities that support the department, university, profession, or community.

The Department of Computing, housed within the College of Business and Technology (CBAT), has approximately 500 undergraduate majors, 150 graduate majors, and 25 faculty members. It offers four undergraduate programs (Computer Science, Cybersecurity, Information Systems, Information Technology), two graduate programs (Computer Science, Information Systems), and a Graduate Certificate in Data Analytics.
This position is contingent upon sufficient funding, and the salary is based on faculty rank and qualifications.

Required Qualifications
  • The successful candidate must hold a Master’s Degree in Computer Science or a closely related discipline by July 1, 2024.

In addition, all candidates must:
  • Be able to work in the United States legally.
  • Be able to begin work in July 2024.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Prior teaching experience in a higher education setting.
  • Previous management experience.
  • Relevant industry experience is a plus.
