Position Highlights The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at the University of Arizona is seeking applicants for a one-year, full-time Lecturer to teach foundational and advanced undergraduate biochemistry courses, including laboratory courses. Additional courses in the Chemistry & Biochemistry Department curriculum may also be assigned as the need arises. In addition to teaching, they will contribute to the department through service and outreach. This is an academic year (9-month) position at 1.0 FTE and is located in Tucson. *Demonstrated organizational skills, including the ability to plan, prioritize and successfully manage deadlines. *Effectively communicate with individuals at all organizational levels. *Effectively work with students. *Effectively work with students from diverse backgrounds. *Effectively supervise teaching assistants and preceptors. *Data management skills to track student progress and evaluations.

Duties & Responsibilities

The workload distribution for this position will be 80% teaching and 20% departmental service and outreach.
 
* Be primarily responsible for teaching in-person and online courses, including laboratory courses.
* Participate in course development and evidence-based pedagogy.
* Use active learning methodologies in the classroom and to engage online students using interactive platforms.
* Maintain regularly scheduled office hours and available for video conferencing.
* Provide additional instructional support as needed.
* Work with the UA D2L learning management system.
* Supervise teaching assistants and preceptors assigned to their courses.
* Attend all pertinent program staff and faculty meetings.
* Contribute to governance through service and/or outreach at the department and college level.

*Participate in student success and support initiatives.

* Participate in undergraduate student recruitment.

* Provide outreach support to local high schools, where appropriate.

* Excellent teaching, communication, and inter-personal skills.

 

Minimum Qualifications  
  • Ph.D. in Biochemistry or a closely related field.
  • Three years of teaching experience is required.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in all areas of chemistry and biology that are foundational to the teaching of undergraduate biochemistry majors.
  • Recent experience working in biochemistry laboratory (academic or research).
  • Advanced degree or certification in science education.
