Job Summary:

The Biology Department at Gonzaga University in Spokane, WA is searching for an engaging, equity-minded teacher-scholar to join our teaching-centered Biology Department for a one-year, fixed-term, non-tenure-track faculty position for the 2023-2024 academic year. We are looking for colleague who is committed to pursuing excellence in teaching by creating engaging, inclusive learning environments for undergraduate students in introductory biology lecture and lab courses. Teaching obligations include lecture sections of our introductory-level course, Information Flow in Biological Systems, and an associated bacteriophage discovery lab. These are the first biology courses taken by students in the major, as well as by students in Nursing, Human Physiology, Biochemistry, and Applied Math. Students in other majors interested in careers in the health sciences also take these courses. Total teaching load will be 12 contact hours each week. Ideal candidates will have experience teaching undergraduates from a variety of backgrounds and identities, including those historically marginalized in the sciences (e.g., first-generation students, students from low-income families, students of color, LGBTQ+ students, students with disabilities).

The department will provide support for developing engaging, inclusive, interactive courses that meet our learning objectives. The phage discovery lab course has an established curriculum and staff support for acquiring and distributing supplies to students. The Information Flow course is a multi-section course taught simultaneously by a number of faculty from the department, who can share resources, experience, and advice to help our new colleague be successful.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • A Master's or Ph.D. in Biology or another relevant discipline
  • At least one year of experience teaching undergraduate students in relevant courses
