The Office of Interdisciplinary Studies is home to a B.A. and M.A. in Interdisciplinary Studies, a B.A. and M.A. in Latin American Studies, graduate certificates in Gerontology and Women’s and Gender Studies, and multiple undergraduate minors: American Studies, Capitalism Studies, Film Studies, Gerontology, Health & Medical Humanities, Latin American Studies, Legal Studies, and Women’s and Gender Studies. Description of Work

Thus, the Job Responsibilities and Essential Functions for Non-Tenure Track Faculty should be interpreted in the context of the related departmental and collegiate teaching goals.

Teaching – Faculty responsibilities and essential functions with respect to teaching may include but are not limited to: subject matter competence, course design, course presentation, and grading student work.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
This non-tenure track faculty member will teach four courses per semester or the equivalent, on a three-year renewable appointment. These courses will include undergraduate methods courses in the Interdisciplinary Studies (IDST) major, which has concentrations in Capitalism Studies, Film & Media Production, Gerontology, Health & Medical Humanities, and Women’s and Gender Studies. The selected candidate may also teach electives in their area of specialty and/or General Education courses. If they have a Ph.D., they may also contribute to interdisciplinary graduate education in teaching and/or advising roles. Although the position will predominantly involve teaching and service in Interdisciplinary Studies, the selected candidate will have their appointment home in one of the fifteen departments in CHESS.
Candidates must have a Ph.D. or master’s degree in a social science or humanities field at the time of appointment and provide evidence of ability to teach a diverse student population. We seek candidates with experience conducting interdisciplinary and mixed methods research and the ability to teach quantitative data analysis. In addition to teaching interdisciplinary methods, the desired candidate will be able to contribute to one or more interdisciplinary programs in the Office of Interdisciplinary Studies. Candidates must be able to offer courses in at least one of the concentrations of the IDST major.
Minimum Experience/Education

UNC Charlotte gives primary consideration to the earned masters and/or terminal degree in the teaching discipline or a related discipline.

Preferred Education, Skills and Experience
Ph.D. preferred, as well as ability to teach courses in Health & Medical Humanities. Finalists will be asked to discuss how their teaching practices engage students of different ages, races, ethnicities, backgrounds, identities, and abilities, helping to remove barriers to ensure the success of all students regardless of their entry pathway into the university.
