Essential Duties and Responsibilities:


This non-tenure track faculty member will teach four undergraduate courses per semester or the equivalent on a three-year renewable appointment. The selected faculty member will be expected to teach media production-focused courses in the growing Film Studies curriculum, which includes an undergraduate minor, a Video Production certificate, and the Film & Media Production concentration in the Interdisciplinary Studies major. The selected candidate may also teach electives in their area of specialty and General Education courses. Although the position will primarily involve teaching and service in the Office of Interdisciplinary Studies, the selected candidate will have their appointment home in one of the fifteen departments in CHESS.
Candidates must have a master's or doctoral degree in a field related to Film Studies at the time of appointment and provide evidence of ability to teach a diverse student population at the undergraduate level.

Minimum Experience / Education:

UNC Charlotte gives primary consideration to the earned doctorate or terminal degree in the teaching discipline or a related discipline.

Preferred Education Skills and Experience:


Preferred qualifications include experience teaching introductory through advanced film courses at the university level; experience as a working filmmaker with a history of festival/gallery exhibitions, distribution, grant awards, and/or film industry connections; experience with all phases of film and media production (pre-production, production, post-production); as well as a working knowledge of industry trends, distribution methods, and festival experience. Finalists will be asked to discuss how their teaching and mentoring practices engage students of different ages, races, ethnicities, backgrounds, identities, and abilities, helping to remove barriers to ensure the success of all students regardless of their entry pathway into the university.
