Department of Art Education
Home to the first and only art education doctoral program in the state of Texas, the University of North Texas (UNT)’s Department of Art Education is dedicated to fostering the success of its students.
B.F.A. students in art education examine global artistic production, relevant technologies, critical methods, teaching and learning theories, and innovative approaches to pedagogy and knowledge acquisition. The program graduates students with or without EC-12 Art teaching licenses in the state of Texas.
The M.A. and Ph.D. degree programs in Art Education promote and facilitate philosophical, theoretical, and methodological inquiry in the field. Graduate students work closely with faculty to design original research projects to contribute to the theory and practice of art education. Active mentorship is therefore a significant aspect of our program. Our graduates further their careers by becoming researchers and leaders in higher education, and educators in schools, communities, and museums.
College of Visual Arts and Design
Considered one of the leading visual arts and design schools in the nation, UNT’s College of Visual Arts and Design is home to more than 2,550 undergraduate and graduate students in NASAD and CIDA accredited programs including the BA, BFA, MA, and MFA in art education, art history, ceramics, communication design, drawing and painting, fashion design, interaction design, interdisciplinary art and design studies, interior design, metalsmithing and jewelry, new media art, photography, printmaking, sculpture, and user-experience design, with certification offered in art museum education, and a Ph.D. offered in art education. It includes the Department of Art Education, Department of Art History, Department of Design, Foundations Program, Interdisciplinary Art and Design Studies Program, and Department of Studio Art. College faculty enjoy active collaborations with specialized subject matter librarians, opportunities for teaching and research through UNT library special collections, and partnerships with the university’s Center for Learning, Experimentation, Application, and Research.

Position Summary
The College of Visual Arts and Design at The University of North Texas (UNT) is accepting applications for a full-time faculty position as a Lecturer in Art Education. The successful candidate will teach undergraduate and graduate students. Teaching responsibilities will include undergraduate classes spanning the art education curriculum and may include graduate classes in the department. Additionally, the person hired into this position will act as the EC-12 Art Licensure Program Coordinator in the undergraduate program. The college’s standard teaching workload for lecturer faculty is eight courses per academic year. However, in this particular position, teaching and coordinator duties will be divided, between teaching and program coordination duties.
Additional responsibilities include mentoring undergraduate and graduate students, service to the program, college, university, and the profession, professional development, and continued enhancement of the art education department. The University of North Texas (UNT) ’s Department of Art Education offers B.F.A., M.A. and Ph.D degrees as well as graduate academic certificates in Art Museum Education and Urban Art Education.
CVAD is committed to UNT’s development as a recently established Carnegie-ranked Tier One public research university (R1 Our Way ), a Hispanic-Serving institution (HSI), and a Minority-Serving Institution (MSI).
Minimum Qualifications
  • PhD Candidate (All but dissertation/ABD), or Ph.D. or Ed.D. in art education or other closely related discipline.
  • Art teaching license /certification
  • Experience teaching EC-12 schools
Preferred Qualifications
  • Ability to teach all levels (upper-division and lower-division) of undergraduate courses.
  • Ability to facilitate art teaching license procedures and clinical teaching experiences.
  • Evidence of university-level teaching experience
