Description
The Department of Performing Arts at Clemson University seeks an outstanding candidate to serve as the assistant director of bands to begin by August 14, 2023. This is a 9-month faculty position that will hold the academic rank of fulltime lecturer.
The assistant director of bands will work closely with the director of bands, associate director of bands, and administrative coordinator in an established team environment to build and maintain a vibrant and nationally recognized program.
Duties will include assisting with the teaching and administration of Tiger Band (the marching band at Clemson), which may involve drill writing, arranging, inventory management, recruiting and retention, community outreach, and helping to manage the program’s online presence based on the skill of the candidate.
Please note that this position will require work on evenings and weekends and travel to away athletic games, including semester breaks.
The assistant director of bands will also serve as the assistant director of the Basketball Pep Band, conduct the Concert Band (spring semester ensemble), guest conduct the Symphonic Band (top auditioned ensemble), and teach additional courses depending upon the candidate’s qualifications and needs of the Department of Performing Arts which might include applied lessons on the candidate’s instrument, a music appreciation course, chamber music groups, etc.
The successful candidate will represent the band program in a professional manner with faculty, staff, alumni, and student interactions.
Qualifications
Candidates should have a minimum of a Master’s Degree in Music.
Additional Qualifications: Teaching experience in athletic and concert bands; demonstrated commitment to undergraduate teaching and student recruitment.
