Position Overview
The Department of Mathematics of the University of Kansas invites qualified instructors with a record of excellence in teaching introductory mathematics courses to apply to the position of lecturer/academic program associate for the Kansas Algebra Program (KAP). This program coordinates the instruction and student support services for College Algebra (Math 101) and Intermediate Algebra (Math 002). KAP is a national showcase of peer-supported instruction centered on the students with many resources and opportunities. Course content is presented through a closely coordinated program of small class sizes. Classes will be taught by KAP lecturers/academic program associates (LEC/APA) and graduate teaching assistants (GTAs) with classroom assistance by undergraduate teaching assistants (UTAs), with common assessments, a drop-in help room, and tutor and study groups. The KAP LEC/APAs are a team of dedicated mathematics educators that teach an average of three sections per semester of Math 002/Math 101 and will also be asked to supervise GTAs and UTAs. T
The Department of Mathematics has an internationally recognized faculty and a strong graduate program leading to both the M.A. and Ph.D. degrees. A broad range of programs is possible including algebra, analysis, combinatorics, control theory, dynamical systems, geometry, numerical analysis, probability, statistics, stochastic analysis/control, partial differential equations, set theory, and topology. The department has a long tradition of excellence. The first Ph.D. granted west of the Mississippi was in mathematics at KU in 1895. Since then, the graduate program has been a central part of the department’s research and teaching. Historic Snow Hall, which houses the department, contains state-of-the-art classrooms, lecture spaces, computer labs, and other facilities.

A city of approximately 100,000, Lawrence is located in the rolling hills of eastern Kansas, 35 miles west of the Kansas City metropolitan area and 20 miles east of Topeka, the state capital. Home to Haskell Indian Nations University as well as KU, Lawrence offers the many cultural opportunities of a university town.
