Summary of Position
This is a year-round, 15-hour per week position which provides program support and assistance to the director of the New Hampshire Literacy Institutes including NH Literacy Institute conferences; teacher events; summer courses and program; the Learning Through Teaching Program (LTT); and the Writers Academy, a summer program for middle and high school youth. In the summer months of May, June, and July, the hours increase to 20-25 hours a week.

Required Qualifications
  • High school graduation; Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • 3-5 years of office experience or five years of specialized training or higher education or any combination of experience and higher education equal to five years;
  • Organizational and analytical skills;
  • Keyboarding and computer skills, such as word processing, e-mail, Internet, desktop publishing, spreadsheets, data base and software applications;
  • Experience in designing brochures, website content, and social media interactions, using CANVA and Microsoft Office Suite;
  • Effective and professional written and oral communication skills;
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with faculty, staff, school districts, students and the general public.
  • Experience with schools and teacher programs is helpful.
  • Experience in handling financial transactions.

Hourly Rate: $19.00-$23.50/per hour.
Expected Hours/Pay Period: 15 hours per week (August-April); 20-25 hours per week (May, June, July).

Details of Job Duties:
Faculty Support (30% of time)
  • Manage Literacy Institute student files: Manage registration history for 100+ participants of the summer institutes and an average of 100 participants per semester for the Learning Through Teaching program, primarily non-degree students (year round).
  • Update and maintain contact mailing lists for communication with NHLI alumni, LTT participating schools, and regional literacy and language arts teachers (year-round)
  • Manage faculty files including annual course evaluations for LTT and Summer Literacy Institute; Coordinate teaching evaluations: Manage files and provide copies upon request for combined total of approximately 10 staff instructors.
  • Prepare faculty reimbursements: Process 8-10 requests for the LTT program annually; process 3-4 faculty and/or guest reimbursements for the summer institutes (year-round).
  • Arrange for faculty and special guest travel, including transportation for 1-2 faculty guests between hotel and event, annually. Arrange for annual conferences and mini workshops throughout the year (year-round).
  • Arrange for student housing and catering during the summer institutes (January-August).
  • Assist in fundraising activities for the 603-challenge for the New Hampshire Literacy Institutes.
  • Coordinate course and classroom scheduling: Coordinate the summer institutes, in collaboration with the director and department coordinator, 9-12 courses that are typically offered, including classroom assignments, and special events of keynote speakers.
  • Handle enrollments management: Manage 9-12 rosters for the summer institutes annually (January to August);
  • Create and distribute weekly newsletters during the summer institutes to highlight content and area attractions for faculty and participants.
  • Assist with paperwork and coordination for 8-12 contract courses for the Learning Through Teaching program and non-credit educational services during the academic year; assist in coordinating with Professional, Development, and Training.
  • Assist adjunct faculty and consultants with University academic processes, including add/drop deadlines; student petitions; and grading. (August – April)
  • Assist in coordinating content for annual reports and newsletters to NHLI and LTT alumni and schools during the academic year; assist in grant applications for NHLI-research/engagement-related initiatives, assist in planning the annual National Day on Writing (September/October) with New Hampshire schools and teachers, as well as other UNH entities (year-round).

Website/Marketing/Canvas Support (30% of time)
  • Assist in building content, ensure currency and accuracy of program website content, including NH Literacy Institute, the LTT program and Writers Academy. Update announcements and news articles as needed, such as the LTT annual conference (August-April).
  • Assist in designing and distributing marketing materials for LTT, webinars, workshops, and conferences; NHLI-related media campaigns for teacher outreach and engagement activities (year-round). Assist in summer literacy marketing from January – August.
  • Assist in social media account maintenance and content building (webinars, resources on literacy, etc.), including Instagram, Facebook, YouTube, and LinkedIn. (year round)
  • Develop and distribute marketing materials for summer institutes via mail services, direct email, and social media.
  • Update enrollment information daily during March to August.
  • Coordinate and maintain technical support of web site as needed. Demonstrate basic knowledge with editing software (i.e., Photoshop, Canva), and Adobe Acrobat; utilize Adobe Acrobat in all aspects of job duties, from scanning hard copies to archiving electronic transmissions. Utilize proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office software including, but not limited to Excel and Word (year-round).

General Administrative Support (30% of time)
  • Provide telephone/visitor reception; respond to program inquiries primarily by email and telephone and receive walk-in requests occasionally.
  • Perform writing (letters, reports, press releases, stories, etc.).
  • Coordinate and assist with publicity; coordinate summer workshops and one-day professional development workshop/webinars (Fall/Spring) for teachers, annually, in collaboration with the UNH Conference & Catering.
  • Proofread and assist in design of the Institutes postcards/mailings, annually.
  • Photocopy and scan (e.g., course materials, student evaluations, expense reimbursements and P-card documentation).
  • Order supplies for all programs as requested using the UShop system, including books and multimedia for the Learning Through Teaching library.
  • Order and distribute promotional items for Writer’s Academy and summer institutes as determined by budget.
  • Perform other duties as assigned (year-round).
