Alumni Relations & Development (ARD) engages alumni (~190k), current students, parents and friends of the University through intellectual, professional and social activities on campus, around the world and online. ARD raises $600 Million annually to support faculty and researchers, practitioners and patients, and students and programs across the University. Our work supports priorities in every division, school, department, and institute. The Prospect Development and Decision Support (PDDS) team maximizes the value of fundraising data and systems to ARD staff and the University. We offer insight derived from analytics and qualitative research to drive fundraising strategy. We help staff members to work more effectively with data and technology through staff education programs, process and system design services, and change management planning.


Job Summary
 

The job provides professional support and solves straightforward problems in the development, deployment, and support of information technology products and services used in teaching and learning.

Responsibilities

  • Trains ARD staff and other UChicago database users on ARD technology tools.
  • Maintains a thorough knowledge of instructional design research, principles, and emerging applications of instructional design theories and instructional technology applications.
  • Maintain professional expertise in online teaching and learning, electronic pedagogy, and technology-based course delivery, including learning management systems (LMS), multimedia and instructional course software, adaptive learning tools, multimedia presentation, web conferencing, and classroom technologies.
  • Oversees training enrollment and attendance tracking.
  • Tracks and analyzes engagement and skill development progress for all ARD staff members.
  • Investigates innovative uses of technology in teaching and learning to promote the use of specialized applications, equipment, and services, including face-to-face interaction as well as group, seminar, and online interaction.
  • Provides assistance and collaborate with subject matter experts on the pedagogical design and development of curriculum content by identifying existing content and developing a strategy to convert it into an online or blended format.
  • Partners with subject matter experts to identify target audience’s training needs.
  • Creates training storyboards, coordinates/creates training video, or assists in writing scenarios as subject matter experts navigate and implement new learning activities. Comfortable giving staff feedback related to these items, as necessary.
  • Collaborates with Information Engagement colleagues to provide staff personalized help through the DASH Help Desk.
  • Seeks opportunities for professional development that will enhance job performance, including building networks within the University and with colleagues at peer institutions. 
  • Monitors and analyzes trends, identifies opportunities, and explores innovative approaches to teaching and learning problems. Works with other units across campus to aggregate services in an academic context.
  • Identifies existing content and converts it into an e-learning environment, then creates user support materials.
  • Performs other related work as needed.


Minimum Qualifications
 

Education:

Minimum requirements include a college or university degree in related field.

Preferred Qualifications

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree.

Experience:

  • A minimum of two years of professional work experience in an instructional design/development position or relevant experience.
  • Familiarity with adult learning theories and principles to apply this knowledge.
  • Previous experience writing and developing instructional materials.
  • Proficient delivering training.
  • Working knowledge with databases.

Technical Skills or Knowledge:

  • Demonstrated skill and knowledge of, or ability to learn quickly, the internal workings of the University as well as the technology tools available to the Office of Alumni Relations and Development, including Griffin (the University's Donor Relationship Management System), Salesforce (the University's future relationship management system), Zoom, Microsoft Windows computer environment, Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Access.
  • Background with Salesforce and/or myTrailhead a plus.
