Job Description

The Center for Curriculum, Instruction and Technology (CCIT) is a unified center to engage and support faculty and all relevant stakeholders through programs and services that address the changing landscape of education, including curriculum design and revision, exposure to innovative pedagogies, and exploration of educational technologies. In pursuit of teaching excellence, the CCIT enhances the culture of teaching at the college and, in turn, continually improves students' educational experience, ensuring Berkeley College delivers on its promise and commitment to lifelong learning. Partnering with relevant academic stakeholders (librarians, faculty, deans, chairs, academic program directors, and academic leadership), the CCIT fosters a culture of reflective teaching and a supportive community of scholars.

Reporting to the Senior Director, Center for Curriculum, Instruction and Technology (CCIT), the Learning Experience Strategist (LxS) supports the CCIT in the development and continuous improvement of curriculum, promotes student-centered pedagogical approaches, the effective integration of instructional technologies, innovative pedagogies, and the scholarship of teaching and learning. The (LxS) will use best practices of learning theories and curriculum design to assist faculty and other stakeholders in implementing appropriate strategies for achieving and measuring student learning outcomes.

Responsibilities

The following responsibilities are customary for this position but are not to be construed as all-inclusive. Responsibilities may be added, dropped, or reassigned based on evolving institutional needs.

Assist in curriculum development and curriculum revision initiatives.

Assist in designing and facilitating professional development workshops and experiences that promote best practices in teaching and learning empowering faculty to implement responsive teaching strategies.

 Serve as a consultant to and collaborate with faculty with regard to student learning objectives, authentic assessments, “plagiarism resistant” assignments, instructional strategies, course syllabi preparation, strategic use of the college learning management system, and the integration of educational technologies.

 Participate on committees or within collaborative teams that provide leadership and innovation for enhancing teaching and learning by identifying, evaluating, adopting, advancing, and integrating effective educational technologies and information literacy skills into the curriculum.

Assist in shaping and implementing a vision that establishes the Center for Curriculum, Instruction and Technology as a vital, trusted source of expertise and support for curriculum development and revision, designing compelling learning experiences, and integrating educational technology.

Promote the value of integrating information/digital literacy skills into the curriculum and the impact of information/digital literacy skills on lifelong learners.

  • Provide and support effective information/digital literacy instruction and education across the core curriculum for various academic disciplines that promote active learning.
  • Collaborate with faculty, librarians, and other stakeholders to seamlessly integrate information/digital literacy skills focusing on inquiry-guided active learning, student engagement, and student-centered pedagogy that align to course learning objectives.

Assist in internal and external curriculum mapping projects.

 At the discretion of the Senior Director of the CCIT, teaches 3 semester credits annually in an area of need and in the area of expertise.

Other duties as assigned by the Senior Director of the CCIT.

Requirements/Qualifications

Master’s degree in Curriculum Design, Learning Design, Education, or related fields.

 3+ years of experience with designing and teaching courses in K-12 or higher education in one of the following disciplines:

  • Business (Accounting, Management, Business Data Science, Marketing)
  •  Health Studies (Nursing)
  • Justice Studies or Legal Studies
  •  Information/Digital Literacy

Experience with Backward Design (Wiggins, McTighe).

Experience working with diverse student demographics.

Experience working with:

  • Learning management systems (e.g. Canvas, Moodle, Blackboard, Google Classroom, etc.)
  • Microsoft Office Suite
  • Web 2.0 tools
  • Cloud-based tools

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Knowledge of current trends, methodologies, best practices, learning theories, and curriculum design models in education, including but not limited to:

  • Backward Design (Wiggins & McTighe)
  • Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion
  • Culturally Responsive Teaching
  • Universal Design for Learning (UDL)
  • Inquiry-based Learning
  • Authentic Assessment
  • Differentiated Instruction

Knowledge of the broad landscape of teaching, learning, research, information/digital literacy, and scholarship in higher education.

Proficient skills using instructional technology including but not limited to Microsoft 365, Web 2.0 tools, publisher tools, and video conferencing.

Strong organizational and project management capabilities, including the ability to manage a variety of complex projects and priorities, coordinate with others, and follow projects through to completion.

Ability to communicate and work successfully with all stakeholders including faculty, departments, and administrators with a variety of backgrounds and mindsets.

Ability to respond effectively to changing needs and priorities, showing initiative and flexibility.

Ability to plan, promote and deliver instructional workshops to individuals at various levels of understanding, including integrating effective instructional methodologies and educational technology.

Location and Hours

The Learning Experience Strategist will be based at a New York or New Jersey-based campus or remotely but must be able to travel to Berkeley College campuses located in Newark, NJ, New York City, Woodland Park, NJ, Paramus, NJ or Woodbridge, NJ as needed. The working hours will be flexible and will be arranged by the availability and needs of the Center for Curriculum, Instruction and Technology.
